The Idea Behind “Beauty Will Save the World”

“This happened during a difficult period in my life, when I realized I needed to leave the theatre and change something. I went to Rome, walked through museums and exhibitions, trying to find answers to my questions. One day, while I was gazing for a long time at Raphael’s Entombment, the phrase ‘Beauty will save the world’ suddenly sounded clearly within me. Later I learned that this idea came to Dostoevsky in Dresden, in front of Raphael’s Sistine Madonna. I took it as a sign and an impulse to act.”
